​Eugene Saltzberg MD - Pioneering Emergency Medicine Specialist

As part of the first wave of doctors practicing emergency medicine, Eugene (Gene) Saltzberg, MD, has taught and treated patients in numerous Chicago area faculties for over thirty years. Board certified in 1987, Eugene Saltzberg, MD, is an associate clinical professor at Chicago Medical School, focusing on emergency simulations and differential diagnosis. He has mentored many students and involved himself in professional interest groups.

His accomplishments include 25 years of service at Condell Medical Center, becoming the first ER doctor to join the executive committee of the medical staff, and serving as its chief for three years. In addition, Dr. Saltzberg treated active-duty service members and their families and cared for urgent care patients at Northwestern Medicine. He has also had privileges at numerous local hospitals.

Believing in community service, Dr. Saltzberg is a longtime medical adviser to The Lambs Farm, a nonprofit facility housing 160 people with developmental disabilities, where he assesses new residents and monitors infectious diseases and patient rights.

After earning an undergraduate degree in psychology, Dr. Saltzberg earned his MD at Chicago Medical School. He then completed a residency at Northwestern University and a preceptorship at the University of Nevada. He continues to advocate for his profession as a member of the ethics and national affairs committees of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Saltzberg has testified several times as an expert witness in malpractice cases and consulted with several organizations on emergency medicine.
